Lateral Thinking Questions

ANSWER: L.T.Q. #18

Well, I'm back from Indy. I learned quite a lot of interesting
things, including Mid-west American hospitality, and Middle America
morals (it has something to do with picking up two strange women in a
bar...). Didn't manage to get to either the Zoo or the Sports Car
Museum. I'll have to save those for next time I go.
Here is this week's question:
Charles Pompuss was racing around in his new sports car when he noticed that his throat was parched.
He came to a screeching halt in front of the 'Soul-Ace Hotel' and the nine police cars which had been
chasing him, slammed into the back of his car and each other's. How many bumpers will have been hit?
ANSWER:
Eighteen. Since ten cars are involved, all the bumpers will
have been hit except the front one on Charles's car, and the back one
on the last police car.
It could actually have been fewer. Most of the movies I've seen where
cop cars crash into each other, a lot of them turn sideways, and
don't hit the bumpers!
